In-Town Rec Leagues

The intramural program, also known as REC Basketball, is open to every Walpole child registered regardless of skill level.

This program is the foundation of the entire WYBA program in that, because children develop physically, socially and emotionally at different rates, a child has the opportunity to play and develop skills and confidence without the stress and pressure of travel programs. Teams are selected via draft with the intent of developing equal competition throughout all levels.

This program begins the first weekend in December and concludes the first or second weekend of March (depending on playoffs). Those children participating in the intramural (REC) program must attend a 60-minute clinic in November. These clinics are required even for those children who may have tried out for a travel team but were not selected.

Players who register for the InTown Rec program have the option to try out for a travel team if they want. If they are not selected for a travel team, they will be placed on a team for the InTown Rec program.

InTown Rec League (Grades 3-8) Evaluation Day

InTown Rec League player evaluation sessions will be on Saturday November 15 at Walpole Middle School. Enter through the "Community Entrance" and proceed upstairs to the 2nd floor to the gymnasium.

This session is to evaluate all of the players in their age group prior to teams being assembled and is NOT a tryout. It is very important for players to attend these as they are a critical part of assembling the most balanced teams possible. Everyone who is registered for the InTown program will be placed on a team. If anyone cannot make the evaluation, they will automatically be placed on a team. Our goal is to make balanced teams for a fun, competitive season.

  • Players should arrive about 15 minutes prior to tryout start time for check-in and to receive their numbers.
  • Wear appropriate attire (sneakers) and bring a water bottle.
  • We will have basketballs so no need to bring one.
  • Only coaches will be in the gym with the players, parents are asked to just drop off their child and return for pick-up at the end of the session.
