Referee Contacts

If no ref shows up at your game, call the head referees, Rich Young or Rick Schultz.  They will know if the ref is running late or if they are not able to make it. They will either show up themselves or get a replacement.

(After the first game of the day, usually the ref who is finishing a game will wait until the new ref shows up.)

1. Overtime period will be 2 minutes of stop time.

2. A second overtime will also be 2 minutes of stop time.

3. If after two overtime periods the teams are tied, there will be a sudden death period where the first team that scores wins the game.

4. Full court pressing is allowed in the overtime, and subsequent overtime periods

5. Substitution of players in the overtime period will be identical to regulation play. There will be no triple shifting of any players, unless there are 7 players or fewer on your team.

Example:

If a player plays the 7^th and 8^th shift of a game (because there are less than 10 players on that team at the game), that player cannot play in the first over time period, but can in the second OT period should one be necessary.  If a second OT period and/or third OT period is required, all players on the bench must be inserted, with the remaining filled by a player who has not played two shifts in a row (for instance, player plays shift 8 of regulation and 1st OT period, player could not play 2nd OT unless only 7 players on the team).

6. This substitution pattern will repeat itself if a second overtime or sudden death period is necessary.

During the winter season, invariably bad weather causes the potential for game and/or practice cancellations.  The process for cancellations is as follows:

The President will decide whether all home travel and intramural league games as well as travel and intramural practices should be cancelled.  This will be done by 7:00am on game days.  If games are cancelled, the web-site will be updated with the cancellation announcement.

For Travel, Visiting team has the right to to determine if it is unsafe to travel to a game regardless of whether or not home team cancels games, but they should notify home team ASAP.  If we cancel our home games, we assume that we will not be traveling to road games either, but those teams still must notify their opponent.  There could be instances where we would play home games, but not road games because weather is worse in another area.

For weekday basketball activities, if the schools close, the activities are cancelled for that day/night as well.

Anyone who would like to volunteer for any WYBA activity must submit a CORI Form for a background check by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  It must be approved before you can perform any volunteer activities and the approval process may take up to six weeks.

It is a good idea for all parents (both Moms and Dads) and Guardians to submit a CORI Form early so that the requirement will not keep you from volunteering for any activities.

If you submitted a CORI Form last year, you are still eligible to volunteer.  If you are not sure if you submitted a form previously, submit one just to be sure.  WYBA, in accordance with Commonwealth law, will request that each volunteer re-submit a CORI Form every two years to keep his or her approval current.

What is a CORI Form and why does it take six weeks to process?

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ “Act Further Protecting Children” (Chapter 385 of the Acts of 2002) took effect on February 25, 2003.  It requires that all volunteers who may have direct and unmonitored contact with students submit to and pass a criminal background check.  This includes any adult who plans to volunteer for any WYBA activity.

The background check will be conducted through the completion of a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Form.  After you submit the form, it will be forwarded to the Criminal Systems History Board (CHSB).  Adults for whom the WYBA has not yet received approval by the CHSB may not volunteer for any WYBA activities.  Therefore, it is essential that forms be filled out far enough in advance for the WYBA to submit the form, for the CHSB to review the form, and then for the school to receive approval.  This entire process can take up to six weeks.

If you are a coach or an adult volunteer you must fill this form and return it to WYBA as soon as possible.
